2024 Trout Heritage Day/Rapidan TU Kids’ Fishing Day
When: April 6, 2024, 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM/Fishing starts at 9:00 AM
Where: Graves Mountain Farm and Lodges, Syria, Virginia
The Rapidan Chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU), Graves Mountain Farm and Lodges (GMFL) and the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) are partnering to provide an exciting and educational day of free trout fishing on the Rose River just for kids.
The DWR heavily stocks the GMFL section of the river with trout and reserves it for children ages 12 and under. Any legal tackle is allowed, and up to six fish may be kept.
For teen age children ages 13-18, fishing is available on a catch and release basis and only artificial lures are allowed in a stocked pond on the premises.
Volunteers from the Rapidan Chapter of Trout Unlimited will provide assistance and advice to those fishing on the river and at the pond.
Rapidan TU Members will also provide the following:

Hands-on fly casting and spin casting instruction.

Fly tying demonstration and instruction.

Instruction and demonstration for building a fly-fishing leader.

Collection of aquatic insects from the river for viewing and identification.

Kids’ Fishing Day is the main event of GMFL’s Trout Heritage Day, while GMFL provides other concessions, exhibits, and activities.
There is no admission fee or any requirement for pre-registration.
Activities
The activities will promptly start at the times listed below and continue throughout the day.
10:00 AM – Fly Casting and Spin Casting Lessons Casting Pool
10:00 AM – Fly tying demonstrations
10:00 AM – Aquatic Insect Collection and Identification Streamside near the Pavillion
12:00 PM – Fly Fishing Leader and Construction demonstrations near the Sycamore Pavillion
