Fly Fishing for Shad on the Rappahannock River 4/10/2025

Our annual Shad fishing on the fly Fish-with-a-Friend event will be held this Thursday April 10th starting around 7:00 AM. We have been fortunate in the past in catching Shad during their annual run and hopefully this year is no different. Please plan to park your car on the street opposite the Fredericksburg Church of Christ where we will meet and head down to the stream. For those arriving later, there will be a path leading down to the dam which you will cross over to Ficklen Island and follow the foot paths leading to the stream.

Required Gear:

• Chest Waders
• Wading Staff
• Fly rod: 6, 7, or 8 weight | 9 or 10ft in length
• Landing Net
• 3X or higher strength leaders
• Shad Darts
• Spoons
• Streamer Flies
• Jig Flies

Please bring a lunch or snacks and water if you plan to attend the Shad Fishing event all day and keep an open mind as we are unable to predict the exact time and day when the Shad will run. See you there John T. and Joe C.
